AI is quickly becoming part of everyday working life. It’s appearing in conversations, funding discussions, planning meetings and the tools many of us use every day.
You may already sense that it could be useful to your organisation. Perhaps it could help you plan projects, generate ideas, structure information, create content or approach familiar tasks in a different way.
But knowing where to begin isn’t always easy.
There’s a lot of jargon, plenty of bold claims and an ever-growing number of tools to choose from. There are also some very real questions about accuracy, data protection, environmental impact and how AI should be used when your work involves people, communities or sensitive information.
AI for Good has been designed to help you make sense of it all.

A clear, beginner-friendly introduction
AI for Good is a practical, three-hour workshop for people working within voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations across Torbay.
You don’t need any previous knowledge or experience of AI. We’ll begin with the basics, looking at what artificial intelligence actually is, what it can do well and where its limitations lie.
We’ll also explore some of the understandable concerns surrounding AI, including inaccurate information or “hallucinations”, data protection and environmental impact.
The aim is to give you a clear and balanced understanding, without the hype or unnecessary technical language.
You’ll learn how to communicate more effectively with AI tools by writing clear, useful prompts. You’ll then put what you’ve learned into practice by creating a simple AI assistant based around a genuine challenge from your own work or organisation.
Your assistant might help you:
- Plan or develop a project
- Generate and organise ideas
- Structure information
- Draft or improve content
- Ask better questions
- Work through a recurring problem
- Save time on an everyday task
The intention is for you to leave with something genuinely useful, together with the confidence and understanding to continue experimenting after the workshop.
What will you take away? By the end of the session, you’ll have:
- A clearer understanding of what AI is and isn’t
- Greater confidence in using AI responsibly and productively
- Practical prompting skills you can use straight away
- Your own simple AI assistant
- Ideas for how AI could support your organisation and amplify its impact
- A more balanced understanding of AI’s opportunities and limitations
Instead of feeling uncertain, overwhelmed or as though you’re falling behind, you’ll leave feeling better informed, more capable and ready to explore what AI could do for your organisation.
Who is the workshop for?
AI for Good is open to people working or volunteering within voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations across Torbay.
It’s particularly suitable if you’re curious about AI but:
- Don’t know where to begin
- Have tried it but aren’t sure whether you’re using it effectively
- Feel overwhelmed by the number of tools available
- Have concerns about accuracy, privacy or responsible use
- Want practical ideas rather than technical explanations
- Would like to explore how AI could support your organisation’s work
No previous experience is required. The workshop will be friendly, accessible and collaborative, with time to ask questions and experiment as you go.
Before the workshop
You’ll be using Claude during the practical exercises, so you’ll need to have a free Claude account set up before attending. We’ll send you a short email in advance explaining how to create your account, so you’ll be ready to get started on the day.
** Things to note: Please bring a laptop and make sure you have set up your free Claude account before attending. Wi-Fi will be provided. Places are limited to just 12 participants to ensure the workshop remains practical, supportive and interactive.
As part of the booking process, you’ll be asked to complete a short survey. This will help us understand your existing knowledge and make sure the workshop is pitched appropriately for everyone attending.
